While the foundations of traditional software engineering remain essential, they fall short on their own when applied to AI-native applications.

 Deterministic logic, fixed inputs, and predictable outcomes still provide the scaffolding for reliable systems — but they weren’t built for components that learn, adapt, and behave probabilistically. Building AI systems demands more than control flow and state machines — it requires embracing uncertainty, feedback, and emergence as part of the design space.

AI applications demand a new kind of infrastructure — one that embraces uncertainty, supports iteration at scale, and orchestrates complex interactions between intelligent agents.

Multi-agent systems are already at work in production: optimizing workflows, generating content, navigating search, and solving complex tasks in parallel.

To make these systems truly useful and aligned, we must master the art of 

 — the emerging discipline of designing, structuring, and dynamically orchestrating the information that agents consume to reason and act. Context is no longer static input; it's a programmable layer of intelligence. What data is retrieved, how it's framed, and when it's injected into the agent’s loop can radically change outcomes. 

We’re not just coding behavior anymore. We’re cultivating it. In a world of emergent behavior, context is code.

To build, measure, and improve today’s AI systems, evaluations and A/B tests are essential.

 They help optimize performance, compare model variants, and guide product decisions with measurable evidence. They allow us to validate prompts, assess user preferences, and fine-tune experiences.

But while effective, sometimes these methods are inherently limited — they offer static snapshots of behavior captured under fixed conditions. 

They tell us what worked — but not why it worked, or how behavior evolved over time.. They work well when the problem is stable and the feedback is immediate. But as we move toward systems that reason over time, collaborate with others, or learn from interaction, these evaluations miss crucial dynamics.

They rarely account for the progression of reasoning, the flow of interaction, or the complexity of long-term behavior and collaborate — especially in multi-agent environments. They treat intelligence as a score — not as something that unfolds in context, across time, and in relation to others. And in doing so, they often overlook the system dynamics, feedback loops, and emergent behaviors that arise when intelligent agents operate together in complex, open-ended scenarios.

We see this gap clearly when using LLM evaluations to score multi-turn conversations, but failing to detect whether an agent’s behavior degrades, improves, or adapts over time. Or when A/B testing two chat experiences reveals a preference difference — but offers no insight into why one agent earned trust, aligned goals, or negotiated more effectively. In multi-agent systems, success isn’t just about accuracy or speed — it’s about collaborative intelligence, resilience, and emergent strategies. 

The AI space is evolving and accelerating. With every new model, feature, tool, and piece of hardware, we unlock a bit more depth in reasoning, memory, and adaptation. And this trajectory points toward a future where simulation, coordination, and behavior modeling won’t be optional — they’ll be

If context is the new code, then simulation is the new compiler.

To design adaptive, intelligent systems, we need more than prompts and static evaluations — we need rehearsal spaces. Environments where agents can reason, fail, adapt, and try again. Places where behavior is shaped not by instruction, but by interaction.

What if we could simulate ideas before deploying them? Strategies before implementing them? What if intelligence could be prototyped — not just in code, but in context?

A world where simulations become the sandbox for collaboration, decision-making, and knowledge transfer.
